I just read an article on the latest incarnation of USB drives U3... www.u3.com These drives allow you to carry portable programs and files on the USB drive so you can just plug it in any computer and work away....

I wonder if any suppliers have caught on....Can you get these decorated?....Sounds like a great big leap for technology....

Have one, still playing with it, jury is still out.

Not sure if I have a bad one or I am not happy with the way the software works.

Will report back in a week:rolleyes:

How is that different from the USP memory with 2.0 formatting currently in Promotional Product inventories? Mine are working fine for allowing customers to download files from their computer and upload it on others, with no driver needed.

Not files, PROGRAMS.

You can load your excel, word, ACT! or whatever right onto the USB so that you have a running copy of it to use with the data anywhere you have a USB 2.0 to plug into.

Great in theory, probably works great, I am just working the kinks out on my end:-)

Probably user error:rolleyes:

Wouldn't that violate the single copy license of the copyrighted software, if I can duplicate it on my drive and download it to another computer?

My point or question is, how with Illustrator, MicroSoft, Quicken, or other software creators react, when customers can just download not only their monthly tax report, but the actual software and put it on any computer, without purchasing licenses? Will they add encryption that will make it difficult or impossible to download the program?

The U3 drives uses special portable programs.....Some like Thunderbird, Mozilla, Opera and Offfice Org are free....Others are at a cost....These are not the same programs as you would have on your home computer....I am especially interested in the email programs....Would love to travel with my email and be able to plug it in to any computer with a USB drive and internet connection and be working......There is a nice little demo movie on the website... www.u3.com ...RCS.....
