upon us and we've got the pool all heated along with a Cajun Festival on Saturday, BBQ on Sunday with me in an apron, and Reggae Festival on Monday.

All the time remembering those that gave us their ultimate to allow us the luxury of freedom.

So there it is for the Allan's.

So what else are you doing?

Always a little bittersweet for us. My parents were married on 5/30/31 so this weekend would have been their 75th anniversary. They were taken from us way, way too soon.

This is the weekend we assemble the packages for the troops for Operation Gratitude.

It's held at the National Guard Armory in Van Nuys if any California folks are interested.

A great way to be reminded of those who give up so much for us.

And yes, I know , I plug this all the time, but it's such a good cause!!

I remember my grandmother referring to this holiday as decoration day. That was the day that we put geraniums and petunias on family members graves. After my grandparents were gone my father continued the tradition now that my parents are gone my husband and I continue. We fill the Odyssey with flowers and "decorate" my family's graves. However, the tradition has always included great stories and discussions of those who have gone one. Even though neither of my daughters were able to meet my great grandparents, grandparents, great Uncle Ed and Aunt Pearl - they know of their lives. We always take this weekend as a rememberance of not only those who died for our freedom but of those who had influence on what we have become today.

I think all of us patriotic promotional product salespeople need to put a full court press on getting more flag bumper stickers, window clings, car magnets, etc. out there for the general public. I loved it after 9/11 when the US flag was EVERYWHERE! Really made me believe that we all know how lucky we are to live in America!!!

We are spending the weekend at our daughter's softball tournament - 4 games just on Saturday, which is also our son's 17th b-day. Great weekend of softball, tailgating in the parking lot, & making new memories of times with the kids and friends. We will, however, be missing our annual trip to the lake especially with a forecast of a humid 92 degrees all weekend.

God Bless America and our Troops & Veterans!

We did the usual for a 3 day weekend.

This holiday should be a stand alone day of remembering those who gave everything while comforting the families that gave too much.

Hi Friends...
Many years ago, my neighbor sold me an American flag at his garage sale.
I paid $3.00 for this beauty.
This flag is about 8' x 5 feet and I simply love it!

I remain puzzled as to how or why someone would sell a perfectly good American flag... but so it goes.

On Memorial Day, the 4th of July, September 11th and at other appropriate times, I actually hang this flag -- draped in the correct manner-- from my porch.

When the flag is neatly positioned, I salute my Dad who served proudly in the Navy, my Uncles who each served proudly in the Coast Guard and the Army... and all others who provide me the freedom to live the life I enjoy.

All best wishes... Tom

Funny, but the exact same thing happening this holiday for us too.

Tom I'm with you on the flag. Only day it isn't flown is on the 4th when we're away on vacation.

Flying the Stars and Stripes gives a lot of meaning to what we all have in this great country. Taking a few minutes this weekend to remember those who gave everything in allowing this country to continue in it's greatness is the least we can do.

Thanks for this thread...as I sit here pondering the weekend plans and all the potential fun to be had ie dinner out tonight, Saturday night to be spent at a 4star hotel, BBQ RIBS!!, flea market....I had to stop and think about the fellow who lives down the street from my kids. He left for Iraq just after last Xmas leaving his wife and two young kids behind...will he return by next Xmas? I think about my father who turns 83 tomorrow and served during both WWII and Korea ( Bronze Star), my brother who has a service related disability from 'Nam ~ Class of '68.

Yes, this holiday means so much more than beer and ribs ; we will all enjoy ourselves and our precious freedom ~ thanking and remembering all of those that have and continue to serve this great nation.

Erin...
Thanks for the nice suggestion below.

I recall ordering a quantity of American flag decals and handing them to my customers and friends after the attack on September 11, 2001. All these folks were grateful for the 'gift', and put the American flag decals on their cars, trucks, tractors, computers and the like.
I believe the flag decals I ordered were from Gill Studios, and the colors remain crisp and bold to this day. I'll order another batch, and hand them out around the 4th of July.

-- I too support our troops.

At the same time, and on a very personal note, I cringe when I hear news-reporters say, "Three troops were injured today." Yes, I'm sad to learn our men and women are injured (or worse..), but these newscasters fail miserably when they call one person... a "troop".

A troop is not one person.
One person is not a troop.

Hi All,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and plans. I too love to show off
a flag and decorations. I picked up at great flag at a garage sale last year.... a flag with a big yellow ribbon accross the front that reads...support our troops, may they return to us. I will put it out front and say a prayer for all that served for our freedom and pray that the troops can come home soon.

Also, my 95 year old last great aunt passed the other day. She was a great lady and will be missed. The whole family is meeting on Sunday morning for a service and to honor her life.

Last night was exciting my oldest son had his senior prom and we hosted the pre-prom party. Now he is at his friends with the girls and guys all together in the basement of a McMansion as we call them. I hope they get some sleep!

Everyone enjoy life, hug someone today, ask for a hug too, tell your family you love them, make a call to an old friend and stay thankful
for being you!

Blessings,
Barbara

Today is really very special for me, my son returns home from successfully completing his first year at West Point Academy (3 weeks in the So Cal sun and beaches). Since his enrollment into the Army, my attention has dramatically increased in regards to our military and all that they provide us at home.

If anyone follows Army Football, his number is #67. GO ARMY!
