We are needing to create a shipper account. Which one would be better for discounts and services? UPS or FedEx

Doesn't hurt to have both. There's no charge to have an account, and there are times when one is an advantage over the other.
If you are a PPAI member, you get a considerable discount on FedEx charges. Often the cost of sending via FedEx with this discount is less than UPS Ground.
I think ASI offers a UPS discount, but I'm not sure.
Most of the time, we just let suppliers use their shipper to send orders. But once in a while, or for samples, we can offer our account number to use. Not all suppliers will use a FedEx number, but most will.

We have found that the FedEx discount offered thru PPAI is fantastic. Use it primarily to ship samples, rather than to ship customer orders.

ASI does offer a UPS discount.
If you're shipping to a lot of residential addresses, FedEx Ground Home Delivery might be a better option, as they deliver Tuesday - Saturday. But, if you're shipping to a lot of residential addresses, you ought to compare rates with the United States Postal Service.
