I have a client in the home inspection industry that is looking for unique mailing ideas for a CD, a flyer and a newsletter. The CD would probably be the small size, but they want something unique. The have asked me for samples of zippered coconuts (what that does for a home inspection company, I can't imagine) Does anyone have any ideas?

The company that was doing the zippered coconuts has gone away. It was a cool idea but I guess too many people had the same question you do. :)
I think a bookmark ruler would be cool. Norwood has a new one in plastic.

Hi Donna!
You mention the small sized CDs are the ones that will be used...I wanted to point out that those can only be used in drives that have the tray, not the slotted style. My Macs all have slots, not trays, so receiving the smaller CD would be a wasted effort. I think most of the netbooks also have slotted drives.
As far as ideas for the packaging, you can look at items that aren't the packaging, but might be a good add-in and make a good overall package.
For example, since it's a home inspection company, you could offer an imprinted apron. Slip the CD (in a cardboard case) into the apron pocket along with the newsletter. Fold it up, put in a large bubble envelope, and you have a very interesting mailer. To make it more interesting, produce a full color mailing label, maybe even in a die cut shape like a house.
Or get a collapsible cooler, put the CD inside, and offer to buy them lunch.
Or a boo-boo bear, the kind you put in the refrigerator to cool down and put on kids bumps & bruises. Use the message that the boo-boo bear is for is for life's bumps with the family, but a home inspection helps prevent them for the house.
Or include an imprinted measuring tape, and create some imprinted ribbon or tape with an imprint like the marks on the tape.
Platform Gallery Group has some great packaging.
Soundline can offer a blank (or pre-loaded) CD with full color imprint on the CD and also on the cardboard mailer, both inside and outside.

We have a chocolate business card that has either a stock Thank you or you could put your company logo debossed into the chocolate as well. They are 1 oz of chocolate and mail easily and would be a nice addition to info that is being sent out. www.chocolateinn.com

Check out www.TrackItBack.com
They offer Recovery Key Tags and/or Decals that are attached to a postcard sized card with either stock graphics or custom graphics.
The decal can be affixed to any of your possessions like a lap top, a camera, a bicycle, etc. and if it's ever lost and someone finds it, the decal instructs them to go to the Track It Back website, enter the unique item code, and the item will be returned to the owner. The finder also gets a $50 reward.
Furthermore, Track It Back offers a Custom Registration Page and Data Collection as an additional option. This page allows your client to get data (like e-mail addresses, etc.) of the people who register their possessions.
I've just given a vague explanation of how the product works. You should call them to get more information.
