Hi everyone,

I know Twitter has been discuessed a lot here on DT, but here is my question. For those of you who tweet, do you use hashtags? Do you even know what these are? I am curious becuse I have been using them and wonder if they actually work.

Thanks,

Hi Bryony,

From my limited use of and observing # / Hashtags on Twitter, I think that it's one of those that you need to create a community of users that are going to be using them and constantly searching for them.

#CES2010
#PPAIEXPO2010

Both of these were in use in early into mid January, centered around the interaction of those specific shows. the CES one is still somewhat active even a couple months later.

It takes both Twitter users to add content and users that are looking for more information to also be searching and/or have the tools to search for the same hashtags and look for / have pushed the information that they are looking for.

For Example to my understanding, if If someone wanted to create #toppromos2010 and encourage it's use, people could begin to post Tweets including #toppromos2010 to include links to items or case success stories I guess, and then folks could save that hashtag for future inquires when they wanted to look up ideas, and those posters that have good content may get more business from the quality of info that they've put out.

Thats my general understanding, and I'm sure there are many more real time successes in our industry, just don't have too many top of mind right now.
