For a location in the Northwest US, for a small distributor business (Under $2 Million a year), what is a good base salary to be paying to an employee that would be doing product research, processing orders and follow up on job completion?

"compensation" wouldn't be in the tag cloud if there was only one thread tagged with it.
There are over twenty threads with that tag. Some of them actually offer some pretty good insight for what you're seeking.

Been there, done that too. The discussions under "compensation" relate to an IT position or sales (in and out) positions. NONE relate to what I posted, so I am assuming it is not here, thanks for your help.

Never assume.

The last post on the specific tag/discussion forum you reference was April 2007. There are at least 5 other "compensation" threads on here, NONE are recent and I do believe compensation has changed since 2005-07. I have gone to salary.com and used their averages for similar position, not within this industry, but the best I can do since this seems to be a secret here.
Thanks again, I have what I need.

Fortunately, we have a secret means of communicating on this forum. A private message to one or two of the members that posted on those threads couldn't hurt.
In addition, you were rather secretive yourself with your thread title. You may have garnered a better response had your thread title been more specific.
Bottom line: if you're looking to hire somebody, it's because you've grown. Be proud of that. Good luck!

Thanks for the insights. Yes, we are growing, 2 new hires on the way.

Bob,
You assume that it is a secret here. Not so. Perhaps it is because the varibles are very great. What you might pay in N CA would be vastly different than what I would pay here in N TX. Housing costs for one are lower and there is less government to get in the way here in TX.
Good luck on that base salary quest and maybe you could help someone else by posting what you have found out since I am sure that there are others here that would like to have that "secret" answer. :)
