For anyone interested, you will find the "Glenn Miller Orchestra" has posted their itinerary for 2010 on their website. See -

http://www.glennmill...rary_state.html

You can also switch and view their appearances by date.

This band is the direct descendant of the original Glenn Miller Orchestra that was dis-banded when Glenn Miller joined the US Army during WWII.

In the 1950's Ray McKinney, former GMO drummer received permission from both the family and record label to rebuild the orchestra, using many of the original band members.

They also reconstituted the quartet that performs with the orchestra.

I was fortunate enough to be able to catch their performance in Leesville, LA last spring. It was every bit as good as the original recordings from the 1930s-40s era. The audience ranged in age from teens and under who only heard Swing music in the occasional movies such as Jim Carrey's "The Mask" or from the new swing artists of the '90s, to those who heard the original artists.

That small town high school auditorium was filled with people who enjoyed the performance of their lives.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra will be touring Texas in March, and I'll be taking my wife and Mom to hear them in Bandera on March 7th.

For those who'd preferred to dance to their swing music, or just kick back and watch the dancers, their Corpus Christi appearance will be the one to catch in Texas.

I have dozens of LP albums as well as CD's by Glenn Miller, but hearing the music live is a treat for me that I'm willing to drive 300 miles to enjoy.

Because all the other Swing/Big Band groups of the 1930's to '50s have gone the way of the DeSoto and Studebaker, the GMO has added hundreds of songs to their repertoire from the other top artists of the day - including Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, the Dorsey Brothers, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Fletcher Henderson, Harry James, Louis Prima, Gene Krupa, Count Basie, Will Bradley, Cab Calloway, Stan Kenton, Les Brown, and more.

So for those in Texas, this is the time to put down your "Little Brown Jug", call Pennysylvania 6-5000, hop aboard the "Chattanooga Choo Choo, get "In the Mood", do the "Flat Foot Floogie" or the "One O'clock Jump, and "Sing, Sing, Sing"! Whatever you do, don't get off at "Tuxedo Junction"!

If you're not there, it "Don't Mean a Thing, If You ain't Got That Swing"!

Just love his music & have attended their show. The Memphis Symphony did a concert years ago featuring his music & it was wonderful!

I always look forward to watching his movie. James Stewart was amazing & who doesn't love June Allyson?

Here's your chance to hear the genuine Glenn Miller Orchestra in Mississippi.

Memphis isn't on their schedule for 2010, but these are fairly close.

The Swing Music from a 14 piece big band sounds a bit different that from a full orchestra. No strings allowed - except on the piano.

And the Modernaires will be performing as well. Having the vocals along with the music adds a lot to the performance.

They don't just 'play' Glenn Miller's music - they capture the sound and style that has been handed down over the 50-year plus history of the band.

Actually, the Glenn Miller Orchestra doesn't play good music. They 'make' great music with a swingin' beat. Lot's of '8 to the bar' boogie woogie beat.
