Just wondering what you do for a website solution?

I currently use DC to host and manage my website. I was recently starting to revamp it (I'm no website guru) and started wondering if there was a better solution by going with a regular hosting provider and using a CMS system like Joomla.

How would you rate your host and software?

I've also been considering this since DC came out with their new policy about shutting down websites. There has been no clarification as to exactly how the process would work, and somewhere I could see a website getting shut down inadvertantly.

I have a number of websites, all hosted with GoDaddy.com. Their 24/7 customer service is the BOMB!!!

I think the hosting is the easy part......I use www.NetFirms.com and for the most part it works well....Sometimes they are a little slower to get back to me than I would like.....

As far as the website, the best thing is something that works with a database.....Because I am in Canada that is way harder.....I think you have 10 or 15 different solution providers you can work with...Doing it with Joomla and Virtuemart is doable but takes a lot of time to get it setup and keep it up to date...

DC is just 1 solution...I have looked at 100s if not 1,000s of DC websites that range from simple to complex.....There is a lot you can do with it if you have the time.....It can be free or there are a few extras you can pay for.....Free has a cost because it takes time....

ESP, Sage, Logo Network, etc. etc. are a few others....

Thanks for the information.

I'm not really looking for a cookie cutter type website, especially because of the niche market I'm in. Still don't know if I'm going to move away from DC. Just giving it some thought.

I took a quick look at your Firedog site and just have a small suggestion. Somehow I landed on a page with the Kaeser & Blair catalog...I was just poking around and not sure how I found it... BUT since it had a search box I typed in an item that I am always looking for (Apple) and it came up with 4 tote bag choices with the color "Apple" green.

Now then to avoid confusion and page abandonment I would suggest that you put your "Catalog" button right at the top where most folks usually look and change it to read Catalog And SEARCH. That way your potential customers can search for their widget and have a better chance of finding it with the DC search.

Nothing wrong with the KB catalog...it's just at first impression it looked like your merchandise choices were pretty limited.

Good Luck,
