I was playing with "Illustrator" and did this conversion......I wanted to practice with those Bezier points, etc....It is for stadium cups so I think it will pass...Before is top and after is bottom....

Looks good to me man! In fact, better than the original in many ways. Great work!

I think it is so cool the way you can manipulate vector art by messing with those points & handles.

Did you do that with the type also or just reset it? Type manipulation can be a bear.

Interesting. I have CS2 and upgraded to that for the vector conversion, however, I can't say I've been very pleased with it. Sometimes I'll give it a go, but if it's something going to print I've sent it out for a conversion or redraw. Maybe they've improved that with the newer versions. I'll have to keep an eye towards CS4, too.

Cathy :)

I love Illustrator even more after taking some online video tutorials via www.lynda.com. I had tried the Live Trace, but wasn't satisfied with the results. After taking the video training, I have had much more success by knowing how to tweak the settings.

Much of our conversion work I will still manually redraw, but sometimes Live Trace gets me to a much more workable starting point.

$25/month will get you all the online video training you can handle at www.lynda.com. You can buy one month, several months, or annual for a discount. So much less expensive than classroom or other video courses, and they break up the topics into short, easily followable sections.

Isa says THREE thumbs up! (Or is that 2 thumbs and a toe?)

No, I don't get anything for sending you there. :)

Isa's right on the comment about tweaking the settings tom make Live Trace actually do any good... and I agree in the lynda.com props too!:D

Once you get your head wrapped around the way those Bézier handles and such work, there's some good info by illustrator Von Glitschka over at illustrationclass.com.

I find a weird pleasure in hand-tracing even fairly complicated art, but most people hate doing it even if they are pretty adept at it.

Oh, and great work, Royce!

It looks good Royce. I did notice the palm tree needs to go behind the diamond. Hopefully it is not too late before you go to print.

Wowsers... that's like one of those brain teasers. I looked closely at this the first time and did not notice that but now it's completely obvious. Very weird.

I betcha Royce knows. Probably did it intentionally... just to show off. :D

WOW - 120 views of this thread, and no one else spotted it or bothered to mention it.

Just goes to show, you gotta proof, and proof again!

I've found that proofing upside down helps a lot. Turn your images, original and artwork, upside down and look them over. It makes your brain re-think about what you are seeing. Especially useful if you are the artist, who has been struggling with the re-draw, and all you can see is some detail that was giving you so much trouble.

Tom, you should win a prize.

Oh great, now one proof ain't enough. Soon you distributors will be demanding 6 proofs in a row, at no extra charge. I can hear the complaint now... "but you only sent us one proof. " :)

Nice work, Royce. Out of curiosity, did you re-set the type using the fonts, or were those traced/re-drawn as well?

I will try to remember to post a photo of the cup as soon as Jim prints them.....Jim can you ship today?.....lol.....

Nice job. I too am one of those weirdos who enjoys redrawing logos! I love the challenge of trying to make it look exactly like the original. Most of our customers think it's just computer magic I'm sure! The auto tracing function is rarely clean enough, and I find it's usually faster to start from scratch than to try to tweak an auto trace. It takes time and skill to recreate a design.

For what it's worth, I've used the pen tool in both Illustrator and CorelDraw and in my opinion Corel's is much easier to use, so if anybody is wanting to learn how to do this, I'd recommend Corel over Adobe.

Thought y'all might want to see what we put on Royce's proof.

need approval prior to scheduled 12-18 ship date. the dooley company does not recommend printing this extremely poor quality, amateurish art on our stadium cups. we could have it sent to an art house in india to give it a more professional look to the design.
