Here is a conversion chart, that I have found helpful.

http://www.ud.net/thread/

Although it doesn't have all the answers, it helps quite a lot to convert PMS colors into the various thread manufacturers' colors.

You're right - it's not perfect, but very cool. Great resource. Thanks Mark!

Have your embroider send you a thread chart. It shows PMS color and the matching thread.

If you ever go out to a client and whip this bad boy out and say Mr. Customer, before I write this order for 1 million embroidered jackets, would you mind if I take out my thread chart and allow you to pick the thread colors you which to use.

I have a Maderia thread chart (make of the threads). Even if the embroider does not use Madeira, they can convert.

By that same token you need to take a PMS swatch book too.

Keep in mind PMS colors react differently when they hit the substrate.

I need to find the Madiera equivalent color to the ARC tread color 1146. Does anyone know what this is? Or the PMS #? The conversion tool on the link in the original post doesn't convert to or from ARC tread.

Here's a Madeira to ARC conversion chart:
http://www.annthegra...madeira_arc.htm

But 1146 is a Madeira thread color number.

Also, in the original post, that site converts to Pantone which basically is PMS (Pantone Matching System).

There is a 1146 ARC thread, but that chart doens't show it. Here are a couple of other things I found today:

Thread Conversion Chart (compares a few thread brands).

Convert other threads to ARC:

This is a program that can be downloaded on this page.

You need to watch out for using one card and thinking your embroiderer can convert. Some colors have matches and some don't. We use ARC thread in house.... mainly because it works well. There is special software called MYThreadbox which is reasonably inexpensive ($140 for a license with lifetime updates). It will identify if there is a match and how close it is for you. Best thing to do is find out what your embroiderer likes to use and ask for a card in it. We have all the major cards, and we will, for the right order, use the necessary thread. But we won't order $50 in thread for a 10 piece order. Or rather I will if you want to pay dearly for it....lol. And most customers won't.

THANKS! This is exactly what I need. I have two offices and left my PMS chart in the other office. I do have my Madeira chart, so this is a great help.
