This is a quick and dirty tutorial for adding a nice little "Mac Native" copy of SAGE to your Mac. It utilizes SAGE Mobile so it's not fully featured yet, but its a start!

1) Grab a copy of Fluid http://fluidapp.com/ - its free. This app allows you to have a browser window that acts like an application and operates completely separate of your other browser windows. It can have it's own icon, settings, etc. When you close your browser, this little window stays open.

2) Launch fluid and you will see the "Create Site Specific Browser" setup. Set the url to http://m.sage.net, name it what you want, store it where you want, and tell it to use the sites Favicon as an icon. See the attached screenshot for more info.

3) Go into your applications and drag your new SAGE icon to your dock for easy use.

That's it! Just open it up, login to SAGE and you're all set. This is really nice for quick and dirty product / supplier research and you can even save items to your Project Center now.

I've attached some screenshots that show the end result. Click the images to enlarge.

Enjoy!

Chris,
Thanks for the link. But it only works on the 10.5 version of MAc.
I guess my 10.4.11 is quickly becoming out of date.

Bummer! Well... you could still use SAGE Mobile in a web browser. Not as fancy, but it works!

Chris -- that's awesome! I have Parallels running on my MacBook Pro so I can use Sage, but it gets tiresome waiting for it to open. It also tends to start hogging memory after it's open for awhile, so I have to shut it down. Opening and closing Parallels wastes a lot of time -- this is so quick!

Thanks for the tip -- gotta love the Mac!

Had the same problem with Parallels, etc., and finally got fed up and picked up an inexpensive PC for the office, and added Windows to my MacBook using Bootcamp. Haven't looked back since.

Sage works fine on my Mac with Parallels?

It's fast enough, pretty much trouble free. Yes I would love to have a version that was Mac native, but it really isn't an issue for us at this time.

We launch it, and leave it running in the back ground, and just pull it up when we need it.

I see you've got 5G ram on yours, I've got 2G on a 2.2GH Intel Core Duo 2 MacBook Pro. I bet the ram makes the difference. Mine works fine for awhile. But if I have it in the background and am going back and forth between 5 or so other applications I use, I start to notice the whole computer getting a bit sluggish. Then it's just best to shut down Parallels and it's fine again.

SAGE does work ok on Parallels, but parallels is a pain in the butt.

I have to revise my comments on Parallels. I was using an older version. My PC went into eternal boot-up loops the other day and rather than wait for the tech guy I downloaded the new Parallels, installed it on my Mac along with SAGE and a couple other PC only apps and WOW!

All my complaints had been taken care of, as the PC apps worked great and I no longer had the problem of one platform hogging a USB peripheral, etc.

Got the PC restored and working fine. Now looking to sell it and stick with my Mac.

Bah.. just learned that SAGE Online is only free until March 31? Hope this isn't true... it's great but no one is going to pay to use it. This is a perfect example of a piece of software that a company should release for free... to everyone. It would generate so many new clients......

I totally agree. Since the mobile app is a great on-the-road tool in a pinch, it is useful only in certain situations where access via the main portal is not practical or possible. The limited screen size and other factors make it a great add-on and overall sales feature for SAGE in general, but I won't be paying the extra $$ for the limited use it gets.

SAGE's product is great, and I will remain a customer. But now's not the time to add new options at a cost when they could just offer something better than the competition, and attract even more loyal customers. Let's hope for an economic epiphany over at SAGE before the end of the month. ;)
