Maybe this is at least partly in response to their disastrous mis-handling during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. With all weather forecasts showing New Orleans as both:

Ground Zero for Katrina's rainfall

and the levees holding back water from areas up to 12 foot below sea level predicted to fail,

UPS continued to let all shipments bound for New Orleans and beyond continue to arrive and park there on the weekend. By Monday morning the trucks couldn't be unloaded or removed. At least one order I know of was a $60K event-dated order that had 4 foot of water in the trailer. That order had to be replaced by the supplier and rushed at their expense, since UPS claimed "Act of God" cleared them of all responsibility and liability.

After Hurricane Rita devastated SW Louisiana, we couldn't receive UPS deliveries for over 3 weeks after they re-opened. Seems the distant terminals would see the UPS closure and return the packages as undeliverable, even after our local terminal was operating.

Quantum View Manager could have helped in both situations.

UPS has lost a lot of volume in South and Southwest Louisiana to alternate carrieres.

Thanks for the info
