One of my favorite industry writer/editors just sent me a link to "Promotional People Care" - a site created to enable distributors to aid in providing relief to China after the recent earthquakes.
I think it's a great idea, so I wanted to announce it here so that distributors on distributortalk.com could participate.
Here is the link: http://www.promotionalpeoplecare.org
If you read the letter under "Our Friends Need Us" by Tom O'Boyle, I think you will agree that China has played an important part in the growth of our industry - and in our personal success. I think it's wonderful that Journalbooks and other industry suppliers and distributors are coming together to provide aid.
Thanks Everyone! :)

Maybe because promotional people don't care? :D Or maybe we're too busy trying to worry about our own issues here?
I don't want to sound insensitive, but I am by no means rich and there are many people right here at home who are much higher on my "giving list". Unless I hit the lotto tomorrow, China would most likely never see any financial contributions from me. Not being hateful, just being honest about my priorities.

When I read the original post earlier this afternoon I wondered if there would be any reaction to the post. I did take a look at the Promotional People Care site.
Tom O Boyle makes a passionate plea for us to help. I commend him for being proactive and setting the wheels in motion.
However, I wonder what the reaction of our industry in the US will be to this plea. In the past, our industry has come to the financial aid of victims of domestic and international disasters. Times have changed. Our attitude toward China may not be the same.
I feel that my own donations may be better served to Red Cross relief here at home. At this moment 1000's are losing their homes and business in our heartland. I will keep the Chinese people in my prayers; however, my financial aid will stay here in the US for now.

How ironic... look at the two top headlines in PromoMarketing's email today. Right next to each other....one local supplier giving aid overseas, one local supplier NEEDING aid right here.

Hi All,
Things are bad for the American Red Cross Disaster Support. My husband is part of Emergency Mgt. and read about the Red Cross needing to take out loans because donations are not coming fast enough to support all the needs right now in the US and oversees.
I think it is great for Journal Books to give $10,000 to start things going.
For those that can give I pray they do and for others we do what we can when we can.
Take Care.
Barbara
