After much deliberation - and a little bit of trepidation, I have finally switched over to a MacBook Pro. I still have a PC desktop and have a 5 month old PC running Vista which gave me tons of problems. My Mac now runs both Mac OS and also XP. It was a really smooth transition thanks to my son. I think I'm going to be happy with this baby. I would not recommend Vista at this time. Everything I need to run for my business is in this laptop.

Do you have to buy all new software.....Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop, Publisher, Word, Excel, Paint Shop Pro, Quickbooks, etc. etc.....How many of these will continue to operate or will you have to spend $1,000s to make the switch?...

I'm guessing since she's running a dual OS, that all her old software will still work.

Microsoft is getting ready to announce a new OS that will be out as early as 2009. It is code named Windows 7. Not very secret since XP was ver. 5 and Vista is ver.6. It is to answer some of the problems that Vista created. Boy am I glad a have a policy of waiting at least 2 years before upgrading an OS.

Boy am I glad we run our business from all macs..... the hardware AND software is all designed by, and supported by, the same company. I upgraded to Leopard on the night it came out with no problems. I could never do that on a PC.

Just bought a Vostro 1500 laptop cuz of upcoming trip. I went back and forth on Vista or XP. All over bad comments on Vista. I was very happy to hear that Dell still offered the XP package. Got all of the stuff I would need for the next episode of Windows upgrade including what Vista requires if they get their act together.

Truth of the matter is that in fair fight PC would kick a Mac users a** hands down. I've seen some of those wimps in Starbucks. So there.

Hi Royce and everyone, I can run both systems, not simultaneously but on the same laptop. My son loaded everything for me. The only thing i really need on XP is ESPOnline. Other than that, I have everything for Mac. It was not difficult at all and I'm loving it! I am running CS3 on Mac, CorelDraw, Photoshop, Office, Quickbooks.

I had been afraid of making the switch but now I would highly recommend it to anyone contemplating. I am so glad not to have to use Vista - my graphics would crash a lot in spite of all the updates.

Did you have to buy new software (CS3, Photoshop, etc. ) to run on Mac or does the PC software work on the Mac OS?....Also, Adobe say that CS3 is engineered to run on a PC better than a Mac....Have you noticed any problems?....

I dont doubt that.... mac vs pc is kinda like democrats vs republicans....one is more soft spoken, but performs the job better, while the other is a ticking time bomb with a big attitude and rarely gets anything done.

Just tonight our S corp was given a $10,000 credit line with Dell.... I LOVE to spend money but couldn't think of a single thing to buy from Dell except canned air.

Adobe has versions for PC and for Mac. One will not run on both. With that being said, the Mac version runs better. Although the PC version is set to run BETTER on a PC, unfortunately PC's run like complete crap compared to Mac's. The end result is a slightly slower mac version of Adobe CS that NEVER crashes, vs a slightly faster PC version which might be faster but crashes right along side winblows (non stop).

Maria - welcome to the millennium! You'll find that the Mac allows you to get your work done. Windows gets in the way of getting your work done.

If you're really new to Macs, swing by an Apple Store (there's quite a few in your area) and take a free class.

Watch out for switching over to Quickbooks - if you have to swap files with your accountant, you may run into some issues with your Mac version.

I don't know what you all are talking about with crashes. I never have a crash on my PC and I have many things open at the same time.

I had a $3000 sony before we moved to Macs... it was my final effort in making a PC WORK in a business environment. It failed me, like all the others before it. Macs make you 10x more productive, you don't battle viruses, and they don't crash - period.

We run MACs in the art dept & PCs in customer service... and have been doing so for many years. We have no issues with either system. Our PCs don't crash.

I have Adobe software for both Mac and PC so on the Mac I just loaded the ones for Mac. My sister works for Adobe so i was able to get all the SW i needed from her. It runs great. I'm keeping QB on PC. The new MacBook Pro runs two systems but i got it mostly because i do so much work outside my main office and Vista gave me a lot of problems.

My main PC (desktop) runs great, except for a few occasional hiccups but my son (tech) has performed a few CPR fixes and it's still great. Old but great (2005 old). I like XP - I didnt like Vista. I'm loving the Mac.
