Tiny URL is very cool as well. You make a LARGE url tiny: http://tinyurl.com/
I have to mention FreePromoTips.com. (Yeah...a self promo for giving away stuff!) The site is full of business building information and some innovative new features are coming. We just added Promotions You FLIP For. You can click the top right corner and get a free product sample and special offer. The current promotion is from Winthrop-Atkins. Coming later this month will be a free Eco-Choice bag sample from Gemline and selling information on this new "green" line. That will tie to our PromoTip e-mail on Another Chinese Recall. The site is rocking. Our PromoTip e-mail on Starbuck's Shutting Down drew 100,000 hits.
Watch for our new FreePromoTips University that will feature video and articles from well known national speakers and best selling authors.
You can opt in to receive our 2-3 times a month e-mails on the home page of the the site. It's all free.

Comes down to browser compatibility, and with fonts, whether the person has the font themselves. You have "web safe" fonts and colors that it's a good idea to stick with if you want to remain compatible across the board.

Most websites are designed so that if a font isn't available, a second and third fonts if used instead.

There are two downloadable charts there. One browser safe chart separated by hue, the other one by hexidecimal value.
There are only 256 colors deemed to be "browser safe" on all monitors. And macs have 40 colors that windows systems dont. (216 of them are the same)
These "browser safe" colors were for back in the day when most people had monitors only capable of displaying 8 bit color. I would imagine most people on the net are using monitors capable of displaying many more (32 bit) colors now.
As far as fonts go, that is a browser issue. (as opposed to a monitor one) Beware of using uncommon fonts in your webpages! If the person viewing it doesn't have it in their system, it can drastically change your page layout when it automatically substitutes a font!
Chris, I'd use caution when using that HTML to PMS conversion chart. Some companies, especially big corporations are very anal about their particular PMS colors in their logo. That's the whole purpose of using PMS colors to begin with! So instead of saying "our logo is orange and green" so that every time it's printed by a different printer (or even the same printer with different batches of ink), they can say "our logo is PMS 355 and PMS 021" and then the logo will be printed exact every time. I'd venture a guess that the color chart Isa uploaded has close hexidecimal equivalents, but the overwhelming majority of them wont be exact.

"The only reason to use the browser-safe palette is if you have a concern that your Web design work will be viewed from a 256 color (8-bit) computer system. When I published the browser-safe color chart in my first book, Designing Web Graphics, waaaayyy back in 1996, the MAJORITY of computer users had 8-bit video cards."

If you ever wanted to match a font or background to a specific color in a JPEG photo, or wanted to blend it in with the background exactly...
Here are handy utilities so you can pick up any color on your screen and it will give you the RGB and HTML values: (windows users)

and here's one for the mac users:

It's a very handy little tool, and best of all, it's free!
(there's also one built into Art Director's Toolkit)

Erm... that's exactly what I just said!
Also, I wouldn't really call it a "non-issue" because there are still many tens of millions of users with older monitors.
It's a non -issue for the vast majority of users... I'll bet most major corporate websites still use colors from the "browser safe" chart just so their pages will look uniform on all monitors, without dithering.
