Had a tech from Oyo (the company who produced this machine for Autotype) diagnose the problem as the 12 volt power supply (a $2000 part) Head has only 5000 feet of film on it. My company doesn't output enough film to justify the repair. Could be low cost way to get the speed of an imagesetter. Make an offer.

I compared pricing to either have silkscreen or heat transfer print done on dark t-shirts. Not much difference in costs actually but now that office has 'in house' heat transfer machines, I am being suggested to encourage my customer to use 'heat transfer' instead of silkscreen that I have always used in the past.

Could I read some comments for the above in your opinion and experience with t-shirts imprints method?

Much appreciated...:juggle:

As some of you might know, I have planted a small apple orchard... will have over 125 trees made up of over 20 different apple varieties. Many of these varieties are antiques used primarily for making apple cider.

Well apple orchards are pretty rare in the south & cider production is pretty much non-existent. I would love to take an overnight trip, probably in October, and visit a couple of cider mills. Watching them grind the apples & press them into fresh cider will be nice, but I especially want to taste several batches of cider.

So hoping for recommendations from some of you. I am from metro Memphis, so looking for an area with easy (and multiple) flights to/from here. Detroit would be an example of an apple area with easy access.

Here is our Embroidery shop. We are running 3/D hats on one machine and many other things on other machines. For these machine to run logo's they need to have a special DST stitch file created first. This is a one time charge. The better the digitizing the better your embroidery will look. cheap is not always the best, expensive in not always the best either. Experience is what makes a great DST file.
Someone with experience in how thread works on material. This is very different then graphic designing. With embroidery there is stretcing of the material as it sews. Sometimes it pulls in smaller sometimes it pushes it out. For this reason the artwork actually has to be distorted to make it look correct when it is embroidered. An example is a round circle. If you digitize it round it would actually look like an egg once sewn on the polo shirt. So you need to use understitching to help stabilize the material and hold down the stretching then the logo needs to be egg shaped the opposite way it is sewing. (side to side) That way when the thickness of the thread pushes out and the sides pull in it will actually make it round. You need a good experienced digitizer to know this and understand every facet of how thread works with different materials. When we slow down a bit I will do a short video showing exactly what I just said so you can see it both ways.

Embroidery is much different then printing. The thickness of the thread keeps you form being able to embroider nicely very small letters. Try to keep lettering to a minimum of 4mm block caps to have a happy customer.
Each garment is still hooped by hand to prepare it for embroidery. Then each embroidery head has many needles and the tensions can vary slightly on each needle and separate head. Thread colors also make a difference on thread tensions. You can have 12 shirts run on the same machine and each one may have small variances. Not to worry...98% of the world never notices this. 1% that does, does not care and if you understand how this works you can explain it to the other 1%. This 2% is usually engineers, artists, draftsmen and dancers. When you have a customer in one of these groups take special care to explain to them there will be variances in advance. Then they will be ok with it when they get their order. Even different materials and where the needle hits the grain can make it appear slightly different form shirt to shirt.
As I said they are very small variances and most people never see them. You just need to know so you will have the correct and right answers if this ever comes up with an order you have made. With all of the high technology now the embroidery world is still very basic in nature. Enjoy the through Super Embroidery's shop for the thread side.
I will also post more of the fun things that we make in screen printing, direct to garment printing, vinyl cutting etc

This may help you understand more of the expense of set ups and why you can't embroider a piece of cardboard. it will also show you how fun it is. I am always willing to answer any questions about anything that has to do with decorating apparel. This also shows how 3/D embroidery is done on hat

So I've got this blanket order in China (through a US supplier, but embroidered in China). Get the pre-pro and the stitch count. Now, I had estimated it at 2,000 - priced it to the client at 3,000 just as a CYA. Not a real intricate logo. 4 words and a circle. I get the stitch count back from the factory and they're telling me it's 8,000! No freakin' way! Even at China embroidery prices, that's a $1200 swing in the price. It's basically 4" x 2" overall, so 8000 sts would mean it's 100% solid.

I'm going to tell them to either (a) show me the actual run sheet or (b) I'll have it digitized for $20 here and send them the file and save myself $1180.

Curious if anyone else has run into this with China embroidery? I saw it on a hat order last week - my local embroiderer does the logo (and it looks good) at 1600 sts, overseas (again-through a US supplier) says its 5200 at the same size. IMHO, they're just jacking the stitch count to unsuspecting people to put a little more cash in their pocket.

First off, I applaud the steps Chris has taken to generate revenues for this site.

To clarify for those that don't understand the new policy on
SellPromos.com:

If you want to start a thread in "Find & Discuss Products" or "Find & Discuss Suppliers", you have to be a subscribing member. Any forum member can reply to any thread started in either of those forums.

However, there really isn't anything in place at the moment to keep members from starting threads in other forums seeking the same information.

There's never really been a strong culture on this forum to put threads in their proper forums. I've been on other forums where members keep a very strict culture in ensuring that posts end up in the appropriate place.

If there are those that want to cheat the system and not pay $60 a year for access to these forums, they can either start new threads in forums not appropriate for product or supplier research, or they can use the search function or tag cloud to resurrect existing threads devoted to that subject.

Of course, one could really cheat the system by resurrecting a thread not devoted to what the member wants information on and completely change the subject. (One could find a thread titled "Need help", and even though it was devoted to helping a member find an umbrellas provider, the member could pose a question about PING shirts.)

Thoughts?
